Inspections Force Flight Cancellations
airplane
It is great to see how tight airlines are with inspections of the planes, and how closely they are watched by the FAA. For the safety of many people that fly on those planes every day, it makes them feel more secure, and shows why statistics say that it is safer to fly in a plane than drive on our streets.

To me, the recent news seems a little odd. After inspections with the FAA, Delta and American Airlines have started to cancel hundreds of flights to inspect and fix more planes. Like I said above, I love the inspections, but why so many all at once? I would feel that inspections would be able to be done in shifts, to help reduce the number of planes that are delayed or cancelled. Also, isn't there any extra planes in reserve that can be used in place of the planes being inspected? Every time there is a flight that has been delayed or canceled, it causes the people on the plane scheduling issues (personal or for work), and it costs the airport a hefty amount of money to reschedule those people. I would just think that this would have been thought out a little better by the Airline Carriers.

The Richest Person in the World Is…
For 13 years, only one man has sat on top of the Forbes Richest list. With the new release of the list (2008), Bill Gates has been knocked off of his pedestal by Warren Buffett. Buffett, an invester, increased his net value by 10 billion in the last year to become the Richest Person in the world. His net value is now 62 billion. Gates increased his value by 2 billion to settle himself in second with 58 billion. I wonder what it feels like to be making over 1 million dollars for every hour of the day (average to what Buffett made last year)!

Fidel Castro Steps Down
castro
All through my life, I have known about the reign that Fidel Castro has over Cuba. It is hard for me (living in the US) to understand how it is to live under a dictatorship, but I always knew that as long as Castro lives, Cubans would have to live in this style of government.

Late last night, Castro announced that he is stepping down because of his ailing health. His brother will be taking charge.

I would like to see a better connection between US and Cuba, but I know that this will not happen until Castro and everyone with similar beliefs are no longer in power. It will be interesting to see what unfolds in the time to come.

CNN Election Center - 2008
cnn politics
Usually after Super Tuesday, you have a good idea as to who is going to win each side of the Presidential Primaries. McCain has started to pull away on the Republican side, but the Democratic side is one of the tightest races we have had in awhile.

If you would like to keep a closer eye on the races, I suggest watching today's news site. CNN has setup an extremely nice site just for the primaries. Information that is included on this site is the amount of votes each candidate has (showing them in a graph depicting the race), voting results for each state, and a lot more! I will be keeping a close eye on this site until we know who will be our final candidates for the 2008 Presidential election!

Western New York Storm
wny storm
I am lucky to say that I still have power after the storm we had this morning! Starting at 3AM, winds started to pick up, temperatures drastically dropped, and rain/snow began to fall. When I woke up, it was impossible to see out of any of my windows, and every school district in the area was closed.

With wind gusting over 70mph, many homes/businesses are without power. Many trees have fallen down, and even trucks have turned over on the thruways and the local roads. I am going to stay at home for the rest of the day! How is the weather where you are?
