Carol of the Bells by The Bird And The Bee
the bird and the bee
Are you a Holiday music person? If so, you will be very excited for the free weekly songs by Apple iTunes! Apple has decided that throughout the holidays, they will be giving away holiday songs for their free songs of the week.

The free song this week is "Carol of the Bells" by The Bird and The Bee. This version of "Carol of the Bells" is a unique spin-off of the original, but I think I actually like it better! It is very soft and peaceful to listen to, and yet adds a new-age feel to it. It is definitely worth downloading and listening to.

I am not the biggest fan of Holiday music, but if the selections Apple makes is similar to this week's free single, I will be giving each song they offer an open chance!

Hey There Delilah by Plain White T's
plain white ts
Yesterday while driving home, I heard "Hey There Delilah" by the Plain White T's on the radio. It is not the first time that I have heard this song, but it is the first time it got stuck in my head. Between today's song and the Cosby Show theme song, my head is driving me nuts!

I really like the minimalism in "Hey There Delilah". With them not over-powering the instrumentals in the song, there were able to keep it basic, and yet the song is very powerful to listen to. I have heard many people say that it is hard to keep back the tears because of the beauty of the song. I can totally see what they are saying! If the song does not win any awards this year, I will be surprised. Does anyone own the album by the Plain White T's? I am curious to hear other songs and to see if they are even close to today's song of the day!

Online by Brad Paisley
brad paisley
I found a perfect song to write about! I just purchased Brad Paisley's newest CD (yea, I know you do not like country music...read this anyways), and the third track caught me by surprise. The song starts off by explaining that he is a short overweight geek that works at a pizzeria and lives with his parents still. All of a sudden he says the line "Go check out MySpace". What? A country song about the Internet? You bet! The entire song goes on talking about how this guy can be anything he wants to be online, and it is acceptable. The lyrics are really funny to listen to and the beat of the song is great too.

My favorite part of the song has to be when he says "And fire up the mac". Right after that line, the keyboardist hits a note that sounds exactly like a mac when it is booted up. The rest of the song is up-beat with a nice quick tempo. All around, I think this song is great, and I really wish this would become a single heard on the radio. It is a song that people that listen to all different musical genres would get a kick out of.

Sing Shot — Online Karaoke
sing shot
While watching all of my daily podcasts yesterday, I heard about a website called Sing Shot. It was briefly explained as a karaoke website where you can record your own songs or listen to others. When you are recording a song, you can choose to create a video with it (basically you singing in front of a camera), create a slideshow, or just let the lyrics show up for the listeners to watch. I did not record a song (nor will I), but I really got hooked into listening to others. My favorite singer so far is MusicisLife. She has sung over 50 songs, and I feel that a lot of them sound as good if not better than the original artist. There are a lot of people on the website that have a great voice, but you will have to look around and weed out the "not-so-good" singers. When you are searching for songs, I suggest looking at the listing for the Most Popular and the Most Played Recordings. To me, most of these seem to be the better singers on the site. Have fun, and do not waste too much of your day on the site! ;-)

Cat Power - Lived in Bars
Cat Power
Recently I have been addicted to music by Cat Power (real name: Chan Marshall). I found out about her from a song she sang in a "A Diamond Is Forever" commercial. I immediately fell in love with her voice and had to find more music from her.

The first song I found was called "Lived in Bars" off of her newest CD, The Greatest. Reading the reviews and comments about the song, the song is about her recovering from alcoholism. The song is a slow beat with a quiet instrumental. It is the perfect song for me to have found, since I am so interested in her voice....without the heavy instrumentals, I can really key into her vocals. The instrumentals that you do hear throughout the song are very jazz-like. They are just the right amount/mixture for the song. One of my favorite parts of the song is when they bring up the tempo a little in the middle of the song for the chorus. The transition is great for the song, and I think gives you a push to want to hear more from her. Without a doubt, I will be purchasing her new CD...give her a try and see what you think!
