Taking the Week Off
I hate to do this, but I have to take the rest of the week off from posting. My grandmother has somehow broken something in her leg and is now in the hospital (hopefully getting it fixed). I would like to spend some time with her there, so I have decided to sacrifice the time I use every day to post. If you would like to write an article or 2 for any section of aDayBlog, please feel free to write it up as a comment on this post, or send it to me through the
Contact Form. Make sure to give us your name and your website address so we can mark you as the author of this post! I will be back writing on June 5.
Thanks,
--Joe

Foo Fighters - My Hero
Since their start, the Foo Fighters have continuously been releasing new music that people really enjoy. One of my favorite songs by the group is "My Hero". The beat is a little calmer than their other songs, but their "rock" style is still shown in the song. With the strong drum beat, and the awesome guitar, I really like the instrumentation of the song. The other thing that I really liked about the song were the lyrics. Even though there are only 4 very short verses written for the song, they words used are very poetic and really do have a lot of meaning. "My Hero" is on "The Colour and Shape" CD which also includes other great hits like "Monkey Wrench" and "Everlong". I would highly suggest taking a listen to these songs also (if not the whole CD) when you get a chance!

Bloc Party - Banquet

To end this week's fun of picking songs found in Celebrity Playlists, I went to INXS to pick my song. With the newest addition to the group of JD, I was interested in seeing what these guys would pick. I feel like this group has a large diversity through it, and was expecting a very wide variety of songs. I was right! You can find songs on their playlist from artists between (and including) Arctic Monkeys and Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. I decided to write about the song "Banquet" by Bloc Party. I find it hard (for me, at least) to write about this song, but I enjoy it a lot, and really want to make sure people hear its style. INXS mentioned in their quote that the style is similar to the early sounds of INXS. The one thing in the song that really got me hooked is the instrumentals. The beat is really awesome, and the instrumentals together is just really cool sounding. The vocals (and part of the instrumentals) remind me a little of older/80's style music, but there is nothing wrong with that! Like I said before, this is a great song, and I hope you get a chance to hear it.

Nirvana - Come As You Are
While going through all of the celebrity playlists yesterday, I noticed that Apple added 2 new celebrities. Bo Bice and Randy Jackson were both added yesterday...isn't it ironic that they were both added on the day of the season finale of American Idol? While going through Randy's list, I noticed he had a song by Nirvana. It is an older song, but is still really great. The song he selected was "Come As You Are", and even though it is not my favorite song by the group, it is definitely up there! The quote Randy wrote for the song was "The greatest alternative band ever.", and even though it was more about the band than it was about the song, I fully agree with Randy! Nirvana's music brought many people into liking Alternative Music, and it also changed the style for many other bands. If you talk to many alternative/rock bands today, you will hear a lot of them say that Nirvana was an inspiration.
I remember sitting in a college english class and having the professor hand out to the class lyrics to today's song and other songs by Nirvana and having us read through them without hearing the music. They are very well written, and follow a poetic feel. I cannot say enough about the vocals and the instrumentals. They are thoroughly thought out, and when everything is brought together, makes a phenomenal song.

Uncle Kracker - Drift Away
It is really amazing to watch specific artists and see where their career leads them. Uncle Kracker started off as a protege of Kid Rock, singing more rock music with the charisma and style similar to Kid Rock. On his debut CD, "Double Wide", the style of the songs were more Rock/Rap than anything else....very similar to a CD that Kid Rock would have released. In a few years, you start seeing Uncle Kracker performing and hanging out more with Kenny Chesney. Uncle Kracker's lifestyle and musical style seems to have changed to a more tropical/relaxed feel.
When Kenny Chesney created his playlist, I was not surprised to see that he put Uncle Kracker's song, "Drift Away" on the list. If you go to any Kenny Chesney concerts, there is a good chance that Uncle Kracker was there to sing with Kenny this song, or Kenny just started singing it. The song has a great beat, and has some unbelievable lyrics. No matter what style of music Uncle Kracker is singing, his vocals are unique and sound great. Hope you enjoy today's song...
