Rascal Flatts - Fast Cars and Freedom
In the earlier CDs, I was not a big fan of Rascal Flatts. With their newer releases, I have started to really enjoy their style! I previously wrote about
skin. Even though it is still my favorite song by the group, I also really like their song, "Fast Cars and Freedom". This song is a little more up-beat, and really is amazingly written. I think my favorite part of the song has to be the smooth beat from the guitar, but the vocals and lyrics come in a very close second! If you were turned away from their earlier music (like I was), give them a second chance...you might really enjoy what the new songs they are recording!

Mark Wills - And the Crowd Goes Wild!
I know many people that are always rooting for the underdog in almost every situation in life. Why? I am really not sure, but this might be a great song for these people, and for anyone that likes to listen to country! "And the Crowd Goes Wild" is an upbeat song by Mark Wills. He uses the song to talk about when a crowd at some type of event gets excited and starts cheering like crazy. The two scenarios he talks about is a young nascar driver that is trying to bring home the checkered flag, and a singer trying to make a living with his band. Both examples are of someone that does not have a great chance to reach their goal, but they both do their best, and come out on top. The song has a really fun beat to listen to, and I would have to say my favorite part is the chorus. Mark has a great voice, and puts a lot into this song. Now my only question is if the singer scenario was about him?

Johnny Cash - Boy Named Sue
A little while ago, I heard a song by Johnny Cash that I loved. It is an older song, so most people already have heard it, but this was the first time I heard it (and no, you wouldn't forget this song). It is called "Boy Named Sue". It is about a man that was named Sue by his dad, and he made it his mission to find his father and kill him because of all of the torment he got while growing up. The song has an older feel of country to it, but Johnny tells it more as a story than he does as a song. The lyrics are absolutely hilarious, and will make you laugh. I do not want to give the story told in the song away, so I am not going to talk about what is said. I just highly urge everyone to listen to this song! It really will be worth your time...

Neal McCoy - Billy’s Got His Beer Goggles On

Let's talk today a little about bar terminology! The 2 words I would like to discuss today are "Beer Goggles" and "Wing Man". Lets start with "Beer Goggles". Beer goggles are what people say you are wearing when you start having a few drinks and all of a sudden everything is perfect and beautiful. This could be for a person that just lost everything in his life and after a few beers is as happy as ever, or it could be for the person that is pickier than ever on people he/she would date, but after those few drinks would hit on anyone...and even possibly on the furniture! That is where a "Wing Man" can come in. A wing man is someone who will look over you when you are drinking and make sure you do not do anything stupidly when you are drinking. I have always thought that a wing man has 2 -- possibly 3 responsibilities. The first and most known is to help you meet new people. The second is to guard you from the symptoms of beer googles. The last is to make sure you do not drive home after you have been drinking all night. Okay, now that we have these definitions down, let's talk about today's song. Neal McCoy wrote a country song called "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On". In the song, Billy fits both examples of the Beer Goggle definition. The song states that he just lost his girlfriend, and his new truck (typical country), and yet he is at the bar to have fun, drink (a lot), and to laugh a little. The song also mentioned that Billy is "hitting on everything in site". The beat of a song is a fun/playful beat which goes very well with the lyrics. Even though the song is country, I really feel that many people would love this song, and it might even bring back some bar memories of their own! The moral of today's post is be a good Wing Man, and be careful of those Beer Goggles!

Trace Adkins - Honky Tonk Badonkadonk
Trace Adkins is a country singer that does not get as much publicity as other singers in the business. His songs on the radio are few and far between. When they do release a song, you know it is going to be great to listen to! His style (mainly because of his deep voice) is pretty similar to Toby Keith, but Trace is missing that bad boy attitude that Toby carries around with him. The instrumentals in most of Trace's songs are more like older country that they are newer "pop-country", but his lyrics are moving right along with most of today's music (if not pushing them to newer levels). His newest single is called "Honky Tonk badonkadonk". If you have not heard this song yet, you better at least listen to the 30 second clip Apple gives on iTunes. It is a really easy song to listen to. The first time I listened to the song, I actually felt like I was at the bar he was singing at, and I could really picture everything he was singing about! I think this CD must be added to my collection!
